How a Water Heater Service Flushes Your System

A water heater service involves flushing the system to remove sediment, minerals, and debris that can accumulate over time and compromise the performance and efficiency of the unit. Flushing the water heater is a crucial maintenance task that helps extend its lifespan and ensure optimal operation. The process of flushing a water heater typically begins by shutting off the power or gas supply to the unit and allowing the water inside to cool down.

Once the water has cooled, the service technician will connect a hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the water heater and place the other end of the hose in a suitable drain or outside area.

Next, the technician will open the drain valve to release the water from the tank, allowing sediment and debris to flush out with the water. Depending on the extent of buildup, the technician may repeat this process multiple times until the water runs clear. In addition to flushing the tank, the technician may also inspect and clean other components of the water heater, such as the heating elements, anode rod, and pressure relief valve, to ensure they are functioning properly. Once the flushing process is complete, the technician will close the drain valve, refill the tank with fresh water, and restore power or gas to the unit. Regular water heater flushing as part of a professional service helps maintain water quality, improve energy efficiency, and prolong the life of the water heater.
